The Prisoner Escort
The road to Ponos

The Viking Hermod from the Tyrson Tribe was on a raid against the village of Renu when he was captured by the honorable Arrow of the Council: Gilan, who then per custom enlisted the soldier: Brander from the garrison of Renu to aid him in transporting the prisoner to Ponos.

After three days of dealing with the difficulties of language barriers and more, the group was confronted by five bandits, who apparently had no knowledge of who they were dealing with, and decided to try demanding a toll for the use of “their road”.

Gilan rapidly lost patience with their idiocy and shot the leader through the center of his face, as Brander moved forward and beheaded a second bandit. two who had the road flanked, loosed arrows and failed to hit their mark before seeing the carnage inflicted upon their companions and fleeing. the final bandit turned to run and tripped and fell only to be pinned to the ground by his genitals thanks to an arrow loosed by Gilan. He is now a prisoner as well, and the attack seems to have started to have the three original travelers better tolerating each others company.

The Road Outside The Nest
The road to Ponos

After a few days of peaceful walking, as the sun was setting, Brander started noticing black feathers along the roadside. as the group moved further the feathers started being placed into the ground in such a way as to be standing. Due to an unease with the legends of this area the group decides to move forward through the night, when they find the road blocked by three shadowy figures in the road. While they prepare for battle, the figures start charging towards them. Gilan shot one of them in the shoulder, but they kept coming closer. Brander heard something behind him and turned in time to launch a blast of electricity at what looked to be a large bird causing it to become stunned. Upon a closer look when it had landed he saw that it was a man. (Crawson) He moved closer and prepared for a fight but he wound up hearing Crawson whisper: “Faresh, Jorveth, Your turn.” and proceeded to slash Brander across the chest, then stab him in the side, after which he flew off towards the forest simply saying: “till we meet again honorable warrior” and licking the blood from his blades.

As the three sprinters got up to the group to start fighting, a shadowy form swooped by and snatched the crippled prisoner they had with them and took him off towards the forest.

As the battle went on, Hermod once again tried to aid in the fight, showing his worth and trustworthiness, though he is still bound. as the battle was ending, Gilan got one last good shot off, catching one of the first three soldiers in the knee. He then saw a flag of peace heading towards them from The Nest. To the great dismay of Brander they went and had peace talks with the man carrying the flag: Darian. on their way, Gilan also helped the person he shot in the knee to walk back to his people on his wounded leg, learning the man was a newlywed and that after this shift he was supposed to go on his honeymoon.

The peace talks went rather well, as Darian explained that they steal from travellers on the road for sake of surviving and as a way to get back at their government for its corrupt ways. He then offered the group a place with him and his men should they want it. after they politely declined, he gave them a feather of his own wings as a sign of peace to allow them safe passage along his section of the road and through his forest should they ever need it.

The group then went back to the road, made camp, and slept in peace knowing they now were safe under the watch of friends.

Visiting the Bear Tale
The road to Ponos

The next week or so passed for the group in relative peace, which helped as they were recuperating from the wounds of their last encounter. Hermod learned a few new words in the common tongue, mostly by way of frequent requests being rebutted with disdain, while Gilan and Brander were running short on patience. Thus at midday when they saw the Bear Tale Inn it was a welcome sight allowing thoughts of respite. As they entered they heard the nagging voice of an old Jewish woman yelling “Welcome, Are you here for Beer, Board or a Bite?”, but when they looked the voice was coming from a middle age bearded dwarf behind the bar. Gilan mentioned Board and a bite, then as an afterthought realizing his need of thirst, he requested a beer as well. The proprietor continued by introducing himself: “I am James Bearton, owner of this fine establishment, how many rooms for you and did you want the bare tail special with any of them?” As the group looked around, debating they saw five tables with chairs for eight at each, up front was a bar that came up to Mr. Bearton’s chin, with two stools, and occasionally they saw a few different elvish and human women moving from behind the bar to the kitchens and back. Gilan asked “What’s the Bear Tale special?” Bearton replied: “The Bare Tail special is choosing one of these fine women to be sure you find your room to be as accommodating as you want it.” Gilan, looked at his cloak, the symbol of his authority, and simply said “Really?”. As suddenly Brander had a look of dawning realization. Then he raised an eyebrow as he looked at Gilan. Mr. Bearton simply said “Really what sir? Many of your fellow Arrows and many more of YOUR fellow soldiers (gesturing at Brander) have enjoyed the Bare Tale special, as there is nothing wrong with offering extra accommodations with the companionship of one of my ladies for the evening.” Gilan replied: “It is against the laws of the land for you to have a person pay for the extra accommodations of the company of another person.”
“Actually sir Arrow, the laws state, you may not charge for sexual acts, and say nothing of fellowship or companionship or warming of your bed.”
“So, if i went in the back room, and asked your employees there would be no issues brought up as to the arrangements you’ve been making? and remember, it is not in your best interest to lie to an Arrow of The Council.” Asked Gilan
James Bearton looked a little nervous as he started to lick his lips and said: “Now Good sir Arrow, we don’t have to make a big to do about this, i can simply offer you the room or rooms you were after at a discounted rate.” as sweat started to drip down his head.
Gilan Replied: " here is the deal I will make you, I have to pass back by here on my return from the capital, if i come back through and there is still any trace of your extra accommodations then I WILL return again with a TROOP of soldiers and we Will thoroughly search your back room and question ALL of your employees."
Bearton “yes sir”
As Brander looked at Gilan and asked " you WILL bring me with for that, right?"
Gilan looked at him, “If you wish”
then turning back to Bearton proceeded to figure out pricing for the rooms and settled on two rooms, one for himself and one for Hermod and Brander to share so Brander could keep an eye on his “Convict.”
The group stayed for the night and the next morning Gilan bid a polite goodbye to Bearton reminding him of his deadline, while Brander reminded him “We’ll be back” and Hermod mockingly said “Silence” since he had finally learned it after having been told it so many times. As the door closed behind them Bearton breathed a sigh of relief and they headed off to Varentia.

Attack at Varentia!!!
The road to Ponos

About a day after the group left Mr. Bearton to start cleaning up his act, they made it to The city of Varentia. Gilan and Brander noticed a disturbing lack of travelers on the road to the city, and as they arrived at the gates, they saw that the Southern wall had smoke rising from the watchtower and as they walked around to that side of the city they could see the ships of the Tyrson Tribe off the coast and the massive hole that had been dug in the wall…

As Hermod took in the scenery Brander asked: “Friends of yours?”
Hermod replied by hiding behind his helmet as he pulled it over his eyes almost in shame. Brander drew his sword preparing for a fight. Then grabbed Hermod’s bonds and started trying to drag him towards a tree and managed to move him all of half an inch before he stopped saying “me do nothing, me do nothing!” in the direction of Gilan." In frustration as Hermod maintained resisting, Brander growled in frustration; “You will come here or you will I will stab you!” Hermod remained unmoved and again said: “Me Do Nothing!”
Brander looked to Gilan who had started moving towards the town and leaving them behind and said “Fine! You may be useful.” and started marching after Gilan while still leading Hermod by his bonds.

When Gilan and his companions reached the wall they found that the smoke they had seen in the distance was in fact the city burning and Gilan turned and headed towards the four Tyrson ships instead followed by Brander and Hermod (who was protesting “please no!”)
Brander looked back at him “Shut up!”
“You shut up!” retorted Hermod with a laugh.
Brander stabbed at Hermod, who tensed and knicked him in the shoulder.
“Me Do Nothing.” Hermod said forcefully as he gestured towards Gilan who was getting further away.
Brander stepped slowly forward… “Let me be clear: I am going to kill these invaders, and you prisoner, are going to help me.”
Hermod looked over to Gilan and tried to head that way, but Brander said “Stop! You’ll be no use to us bound like that.” and he proceeded to cut Hermod free. Then both started to head after Gilan, who had stopped about 50 feet in front of the boats.
Gilan looked over the ships and noticed that all four had spaces for 15 oars per side and from what he could see there were approximately 5 people left to man each ship.

He raised his bow and took aim to shoot the man nearest the mast. Being the expert marksman that he is, He put the arrow perfectly through the mans throat killing him before he could even release a scream. He swiftly knocked another arrow, moved a bit to his left, and did it again without even blinking. Then knocked a third and moved again but the wind caught this arrow and the man was caught in the stomach this time, managing to yell and start an alarm being raised about the ships and in turn a man raising a horn to his lips on the third ship away and blowing freely. At this point Gilan’s companions have just reached him and while Brander is looking back at the city, Hermod taps Gilan on the shoulder and points to the third ship and says Chief in the Tyr language. Gilan nods as he moves closer to the ship and fires his arrow at the man with the horn. Causing the man to choke to death deapthroating a now horny arrow, and leaving Hermod jaw droppingly stunned. Then Hermod snapped out of it and started heading to the city as Brander did the same.
as they headed out Gilan continued hunting the people remaining on the ships till all four were clear, then went up to each ship and started to search and sabotage each.

Brander and Hermod ran to the city walls, and upon entering the large hole they found there Hermod looked at Brander and said “Me do thing, please no talk.”
Brander obliged but maintained a close watch over the once prisoner. While motioning for Brander to remain stealthy, Hermod started to call out in Tyr: “Chief? Chiiieef?”
While there was no reply, in the distance both could hear the sounds of battle and cries both for help and of rage. Hermod shared in Tyr: “Oh! I know that sound, that’s the sound of the innocent… it doesn’t usually last long.” Ignoring him, Brander headed towards the nearest guard post to attempt to find a superior in order to get orders for how he could be of the most help to the situation. Meanwhile Hermod went towards the loudest sounds of fighting and ends up mildly lost down a dead end, and stumbled his way into an abandoned blacksmiths shop and found the back room on fire, though it had not spread to the front shop as of yet.

Brander found the Guard post with no trouble and sure enough, it was being used as a base of operations in the fight against the vikings, and the Captain of the Guard for that district (The Market District), Captain Pelonus, was barking out orders to have the few guards left besure to aid in the primary objective of evacuating civilians and getting them outside the walls to move on the road to Ponos, and beyond that, to work towards taking back their district and forcing those filthy savages back to their ships and off our shores.
Brander said " Yes Sir!" Captain Pelonus said " Good to see another able bodied friendly fighter, we need all the help we can get." then he moved away to talk to a man who had just entered the post wearing the cloak of an Arrow of the Council.
